The Buzman family travels light: the suitcases are edible and instead of pushing them you can roll them! Upon returning from holidays, however, the car is destroyed by a violent storm. Luckily not far away there is the Insect Hotel, where you can find shelter on a day of rain.
At the Insect Hotel there are all your favorite insects, from the talkative to the thoughtful, and even the most disgusting ones. In the evening, however, everyone is holed up in their room: a wavering, terrifying, molasses-eating, insect-roasting, extremely luminous thing is said to haunt the corridors.
The same corridors that Suzy is walking along in search of a quiet place to read and sleep undisturbed.
